The key challenges identified for this high-level event \n centre on:\r\n <\/p>\r\n <ul>\r\n <li>the achievement of the 30\u00d730 targets of the Kunming\u2013Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (2022), \n which commits countries to protecting at least 30 % of land and oceans by 2030; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>the entry into force and implementation of the global agreement on biodiversity beyond \n national borders; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>the expansion and management of marine protected area (MPA) networks, in particular by extending \n the protection of exclusive economic zones (EEZs) into international waters.<\/li>\r\n <\/ul>\r\n <p>\r\n IMPAC6 also presents a strategic opportunity to make a strong case for the \n sustainable conservation of MPAs at the seventh IUCN World Congress on Protected and Conserved Areas \n (Panama, 2027). The IMPAC6 Congress is taking place against a backdrop where the climate emergency and its \n impacts on marine ecosystems, as well as reconciling conservation and development, \n particularly within the context of the blue economy, are becoming increasingly pressing concerns. \r\n Thus, the implementation of the IMPAC6 recommendations will contribute to achieving the objectives of the \n IUCN\u2019s 20-Year Strategic Vision and its Programme 2026\u20132029, which emphasise the \r\n effectively conserved, protected and restored biodiversity in marine and coastal environments, as well \n as their ecosystem services for the benefit of communities.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n This conference aims to accelerate ocean protection by drawing on global expertise, sharing \n local and international experiences, and putting forward strategic recommendations for \n better integration of ocean ecosystems. The main objective is to strengthen \n global marine conservation by emphasising a balanced representation of regions, particularly \n countries in the Global South.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n \r\n <div class=\"content-block\">\r\n <h2>Goals<\/h2>\r\n <p>\r\n The call for contributions aims to provide local communities, associations and \r\n , public and quasi-public institutions, NGOs, technical and \n financial partners, and individuals, a framework for reflection and the sharing of knowledge, experiences and \n best practice in the context of initiatives within marine protected areas. Its aim is to \n promote discussions on issues relating to marine and coastal conservation with a view to achieving a \n sustainable blue economy.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n The conference will provide an opportunity to strengthen synergies in terms of current \n and future research and expertise, at both regional and international levels, through the involvement of all \n categories of stakeholders. It will also provide an opportunity to ensure the long-term sustainability of achievements and contribute to their \n consolidation, by providing conservation practitioners with a summary of the \n papers presented in order to capitalise on scientific knowledge, experience and best \n practice at a global level.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n \r\n <div class=\"content-block\">\r\n <h2>Instructions for participants<\/h2>\r\n <p>\r\n Proposals for papers should make a contribution to the conference theme. They may \n relate to the marine and coastal sectors (science, art, culture). The incorporation of \n sustainability objectives is strongly encouraged.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n These may relate to theoretical, methodological, practical \n (fieldwork), artistic or cultural knowledge and\/or experiences (traditional music, dance, song and poetry inspired \r\n by life alongside the ocean, oral traditions and other expressions linked to the sea).\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n Participants interested in presenting papers are invited to submit an abstract (500 words). \n Proposals for papers must include a title, the authors\u2019 names and affiliations, \n the theme and sub-theme to which the proposal relates, and five to six keywords. They must \n provide some background information, outline the research question, the objectives, the methodology \n used by the author, and, where applicable, the data sources, as well as the main results obtained or \n expected (depending on the stage of the research). Compliance with these guidelines is a prerequisite \n for the scientific committee to consider any proposal.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n Papers may be written in <strong>French, English or Spanish<\/strong>.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n All abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee and may be accepted either \n as an oral presentation, a poster, a video, or in any other format (to be specified). Context and justification of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n The sixth edition of the International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC6), which will be held \n for the first time on the African continent in Dakar, is a global event of \n paramount importance for the future of marine conservation. As the international community \r\n strives to achieve the ambitious target of protecting 30 % of marine and coastal areas by \n 2030, under the Kunming\u2013Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, IMPAC6 comes \r\n at a pivotal moment to assess progress, guide future actions towards a \n \u00abjust and resilient\u00bb ocean, and accelerate international commitments relating to MPAs and \n ocean governance.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n The fact that this conference is being held in Africa \u2013 and more specifically in Senegal, a country that has distinguished itself \n in recent years by establishing 17 marine protected areas and through its pioneering work \r\n in the field of community-based management of marine resources, offers a unique opportunity to place \n the issues of inclusive governance and social justice at the heart of the discussions. The choice of Africa \n as the host for IMPAC6 is particularly significant in that the continent \r\n is the \u00abjunction point of all the world\u2019s seas and oceans\u00bb and African youth \n are set to play a leading role in the conservation of marine ecosystems.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n Theme 1 of IMPAC6, \u00abInclusive, fair and appropriate governance placing MPAs at the heart \n of human societies\u00bb, addresses a fundamental challenge: the success of marine conservation \r\n depends on the ability to closely involve local communities\u2014the primary custodians of \n resources\u2014in the joint development of sustainable solutions, whilst recognising the diversity of \n legal statuses and incorporating cultural, educational and artistic dimensions. The aim is \n to move beyond the historical top-down approaches, sometimes described as \u00abcoercive conservation\u00bb, \n and to transform MPAs into genuine local initiatives, at the heart of the social, economic, \n cultural, artistic and educational dynamics of human societies.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h3>2. Goals of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>This thematic session provides an opportunity to:<\/p>\r\n <ul>\r\n <li>to analyse the conditions for implementing inclusive, fair and appropriate governance, \n drawing on practical experience and case studies from different \n regions of the world, with a particular focus on African initiatives; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to identify the approaches, tools and mechanisms that enable the equitable involvement of \n all stakeholders (local communities, fishers, women, young people, \r\n , state authorities, the private sector, civil society organisations, artists and \n educators, etc.) at every stage of a MPA\u2019s life cycle, from planning through to management, \n including monitoring and evaluation; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to discuss ways of ensuring a fair distribution of the benefits and costs of \n conservation, taking into account the specific vulnerabilities and livelihoods of \n local communities, particularly marginalised groups; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to promote local knowledge and practices, including traditional regulatory systems \n and customary rights, as assets for governance tailored to socio-ecological contexts; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to explore the role of education, culture and artistic expression as drivers of \n awareness-raising, public engagement and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge regarding \n marine conservation issues; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to make operational recommendations to ensure that MPAs, in Africa and elsewhere, are \n recognised and act as catalysts for sustainable development, social justice and \n cultural cohesion.<\/li>\r\n <\/ul>\r\n\r\n <h3>3. Sub-themes of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n The session offers a structured discussion centred on three complementary pillars for the \n sustainable management of marine and coastal areas.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.1. Legal contexts and diversity of protection statuses<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This section examines the variety of legal instruments, emphasising the complementarity \n between marine protected areas (MPAs) and AMCEZs \u2013 areas not classified as protected areas but \n managed sustainably for in situ conservation. The aim is to analyse national and regional frameworks \n (Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean, the Pacific) and their capacity to recognise the usage rights of \n local communities. The following topics are also addressed: hybrid governance combining customary law and \n statutory law; the participatory development of legislation and management plans; and the role of AMCEZs in \n ecological connectivity and the integration of biodiversity into sectoral policies.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.2. Local, participative and inclusive governance<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This second strand places communities at the heart of collective action. It explores models of \n co-management (sharing of roles, delegation, capacity-building), inclusive mechanisms \n (gender, generations, vulnerable groups), and tools for integrated territorial governance such as \n marine spatial planning. Assessing socio-economic impacts and ensuring the equitable \n sharing of benefits (tourism, local funds, green jobs) are essential, as is mediating \n conflicts of use with small-scale fisheries. Particular attention is paid to the engagement of \n young people, in line with the objectives of IMPAC6.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.3. Education, culture, arts and society<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This final component highlights the intangible aspects of conservation. It promotes the integration \n of marine issues into educational programmes, the promotion of local cultural practices and knowledge \r\n , and the use of artistic expressions (storytelling, music, visual arts, film) as \n vehicles for raising awareness and fostering dialogue between science and society. Co-creation initiatives and \n the analysis of social perceptions of the ocean help to increase acceptance of conservation measures. \r\n Finally, citizen-led initiatives combining education, art, digital technology and artificial intelligence, \n such as the Senegalese platform Green Act Club, illustrate this dynamic for IMPAC6.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h3>4. Context and justification of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n In 2027, Senegal will host the sixth International Congress on Marine Protected Areas (IMPAC6). \r\n This sixth congress will take place against a backdrop of an urgent need to protect the oceans by \n improving the management effectiveness and resilience of marine protected areas.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n Marine protected areas are regarded as effective tools for managing biodiversity \n and marine resources used by local communities. However, despite their success \n in the media, the impact of MPAs on marine and coastal conservation has yet to be demonstrated.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n Knowledge \u2013 whether derived from modern science, indigenous sources or traditional practices \u2013 has \n a vital role to play in the effective management of marine protected areas. Sharing and \n harnessing knowledge are essential for improving management effectiveness and the \n resilience of marine protected areas. However, the available scientific knowledge \n remains insufficient, and much of it is under-utilised in the management processes \n of marine protected areas. Indigenous knowledge continues to be marginalised in \n formal approaches to the governance of marine protected areas worldwide. Furthermore, the impacts associated \n with climate change constitute emerging threats for which MPAs are not \n prepared, thereby limiting their resilience.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n It is therefore necessary to improve the generation, governance, sharing and utilisation \n of scientific knowledge in order to enhance the management effectiveness and resilience of \n marine protected areas. Previous conferences have examined the central role of \n scientific knowledge and indigenous knowledge in the management of marine protected areas. IMPAC3 had \n dedicated a thematic session to \u00abScience and Knowledge for Better MPA Management\u00bb. Support \n for and respect of indigenous knowledge from around the world were key features of \n IMPAC5. IMPAC6 builds on this momentum by creating Thematic Session 2: \u2018Generating, harnessing \n and sharing knowledge to enhance the effectiveness and resilience of MPAs\u2019.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h3>2. Context and justification of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n The ocean is a unique, continuous and deeply interconnected ecological system. Ocean currents, \n species migration, genetic exchange, biogeochemical cycles and \n climatic processes transcend administrative boundaries and the limits of \n national jurisdictions. Yet conservation measures remain largely fragmented, organised \n along institutional lines that only imperfectly reflect the actual functioning of \n marine ecosystems. This mismatch is now one of the main challenges facing \n global marine conservation (UNESCO-IOC, 2024).\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n In recent years, international ocean governance has undergone an \n unprecedented evolution. The adoption of the Kunming\u2013Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which sets the target \n of conserving at least 30 % of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030, followed by the Agreement on \r\n the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity in Areas Beyond \n National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement), have profoundly reshaped the ambitions of the \n international community. For the first time, a global legal framework makes it possible to envisage the creation \n of marine protected areas on the high seas, opening up the prospect of a genuine global conservation network \n stretching from coastal areas to those beyond national jurisdiction.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n However, these policy advances will only bear fruit if they are accompanied by a \n profound transformation in the ways in which cooperation takes place. The success of the \u00ab30\u00d730\u00bb target will depend \n not solely on the number of protected areas created, but on their ecological representativeness, their \n functional connectivity, the effectiveness of their management, and their integration into \r\n coherent networks at different levels of governance. This transition involves moving beyond an approach \n based on the juxtaposition of MPAs to build genuine ecological and institutional infrastructures \n linking coastal areas, exclusive economic zones, regional seas and the high seas.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n It is precisely within this framework that Theme 3 is situated. It constitutes one of \n IMPAC6\u2019s main forums for strategic reflection, bringing together two inseparable dimensions \n of contemporary conservation. The first concerns the implementation of the new international \n agenda for ocean governance through the BBNJ Agreement, ecological connectivity and \n conservation measures on the high seas. The second focuses on the practical mechanisms for putting \n this ambition into practice, notably through inter-state collaboration, regional seas conventions, \n regional organisations and networks of MPA managers.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n The fact that IMPAC6 is being organised in Senegal, on behalf of Africa, lends this discussion a \n particular significance. For more than two decades, the continent has demonstrated that regional cooperation \n is a powerful driver of institutional innovation, capacity-building and \n improved management of MPAs. The initiatives led by RAMPAO, MedPAN, WIOMPAN and the \nregional seas conventions illustrate the added value of these collaborative efforts in \r\n strengthening the ecological coherence of MPA networks, pooling scientific knowledge and \n supporting States in implementing their international commitments. IMPAC6 thus offers \n a unique opportunity to bring together regional experiences, scientific advances and \n new international legal instruments in order to define a collective roadmap \r\n for the development of truly representative, connected and resilient MPA networks \n across the global ocean.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h3>2. Goals of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n The aim of this session is to contribute to the development of an integrated vision of networks of \r\n as a global conservation infrastructure, capable of ensuring \n ecological continuity between coastal areas and the high seas and of supporting the effective implementation of \n the BBNJ Agreement.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>In particular, it will enable:<\/p>\r\n <ul>\r\n <li>to analyse the scientific, institutional and political implications of the implementation \n of the BBNJ Agreement for the development of representative and interconnected networks of MPAs; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to examine approaches that promote ecological connectivity between coastal MPAs, \n exclusive economic zones and marine areas beyond national jurisdiction; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to assess the role of inter-state collaborations, regional organisations, \n regional seas conventions and networks of MPA managers in implementing the new \n global marine conservation agenda; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to highlight the most innovative examples of regional cooperation, \n multi-level governance, capacity-building and knowledge-sharing; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>to produce strategic recommendations aimed at accelerating the implementation of the \n \u00ab30\u00d730\u00bb target, enhancing the coherence of ocean policies and consolidating the \n scientific and policy legacy of IMPAC6.<\/li>\r\n <\/ul>\r\n\r\n <h3>3. Sub-themes of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n The work will focus on the two sub-themes officially selected for IMPAC6, which \n represent two complementary dimensions of a single ambition: to build an ecological \n and institutional conservation continuum on a global ocean scale.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.1. The BBNJ Treaty, ocean governance and the connectivity of conservation measures towards the open ocean<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This sub-theme will examine recent developments in international ocean governance \n and the conditions necessary for the implementation of the BBNJ Agreement. Discussions will focus in particular \n on marine protected areas on the high seas, area-based management tools, ecological connectivity \r\n , environmental impact assessments, benefit-sharing, the transfer of \n marine technologies, capacity-building and the interactions between the main \n international frameworks relating to marine conservation.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.2. Inter-state cooperation: the role of regional organisations and MPA networks<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This sub-theme will analyse the cooperation mechanisms essential to the development of \n coherent and effective MPA networks. Particular attention will be paid to the role of \n regional organisations, regional seas conventions, networks of MPA managers, communities \r\n of practice and scientific partnerships in strengthening inter-state cooperation, \n harmonising public policies, pooling knowledge and supporting \n the implementation of the BBNJ.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h3>4. Session format<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n In order to foster high-level dialogue between science, public policy and \n management practices, the session will combine introductory lectures, strategic round-table discussions, expert panels, \n scientific papers, presentations of best practice, case studies, scientific posters, \r\n documentary films and networking opportunities. Context and justification of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n In March 2027, Dakar will host the sixth International Congress on Marine Protected Areas \n (IMPAC6), the first IMPAC congress to be held on the African continent. Scheduled to take place from 22 to 26 March \r\n 2027, this event will place Africa at the centre of global discussions on the future of marine \nprotected areas (MPAs) and their contribution to ocean conservation, the well-being of coastal communities \nand sustainable development. This meeting comes at a pivotal moment. Whilst the \n Kunming\u2013Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework calls for the conservation of at least 30 % of \r\n marine and coastal areas by 2030, just over 8 % of the global marine environment was covered by \n protected areas or other effective conservation measures in 2024. The challenge, \n however, is not merely to increase the area under protection. It also involves ensuring \n effective, equitable and sustainable management of existing MPAs, in particular through adequate human, \n institutional, technical and financial resources.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n However, many MPAs still lack sufficient resources to carry out their \n core functions, including monitoring, ecological monitoring, habitat restoration, \n use management, consultation with local communities, and the implementation of development \n and management plans. Their funding often relies on short-term projects, which undermines \n the continuity of staff and operations. This situation is part of a wider global \n shortfall. The Global Biodiversity Framework estimates the \nbiodiversity funding gap at around 700 billion dollars per year and sets a target of mobilising at least 200 billion \ndollars per year by 2030. Consequently, sustainable funding for MPAs can no longer depend on a \n single source. It must be based on an appropriate mix of public funding, \n international aid, trust funds, blue bonds, debt-for-nature swaps, \r\n blue carbon credits, fiscal mechanisms, user charges, impact investments and \n responsible partnerships with the private sector, and payments for ecosystem services. \r\n However, these mechanisms are only effective if they guarantee environmental integrity, \n transparency, equity in the distribution of benefits and the effective participation of \n local communities.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n At the same time, MPAs should not be viewed as areas isolated from the \n economic dynamics of their wider regions. If managed effectively, they can support sustainable blue value chains \r\n , particularly in sustainable fisheries, ecotourism, low-impact aquaculture, the \n promotion of local products, ecosystem restoration and services related to \n \u2018blue carbon\u2019. However, the compatibility of these activities with MPAs depends on specific conditions, \n notably respecting ecological carrying capacities, reducing pressure on resources, \n generating local income, ensuring equitable access for women and young people to economic opportunities \r\n and the maintenance of priority conservation objectives. Finally, securing funding and \n developing such activities requires a clear demonstration of the outcomes achieved by \n MPAs. Yet their contributions to food security, employment, income, \n climate resilience, local governance and the maintenance of ecosystem services remain \n insufficiently measured and documented. It is therefore necessary to have accessible tools and \n indicators that enable the joint assessment of their ecological, \n economic, social and institutional performance.\r\n <\/p>\r\n <p>\r\n It is precisely around these complementary issues that Thematic Session No. 4 \n of IMPAC6 is organised. It will bring together three sub-themes:\r\n <\/p>\r\n <ul>\r\n <li>Mechanisms and solutions for the sustainable financing of MPAs and marine conservation; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>Business sectors and sustainable blue value chains compatible with MPAs; ;<\/li>\r\n <li>Tools and approaches for assessing the contribution of MPAs to sustainable development.<\/li>\r\n <\/ul>\r\n\r\n <h3>2. Goals of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n The session aims to bring together the issues of funding, sustainable economic development \n and impact assessment in order to strengthen the effectiveness, sustainability and contribution of MPAs \n to sustainable development. In particular, it will pursue the following objectives:\r\n <\/p>\r\n <ul>\r\n <li>To analyse the main obstacles to sustainable financing for MPAs, including insufficient \n public budgets, reliance on project-based funding and a lack of long-term resources.<\/li>\r\n <li>To present and compare existing and innovative financing mechanisms, such as \r\n trust funds, blue bonds, debt-for-nature swaps, blue carbon credits, \n tax mechanisms, user charges and public-private partnerships.<\/li>\r\n <li>To identify the conditions necessary for the success and replication of these mechanisms, taking into account \n governance, transparency, equity, management capacity, monitoring of outcomes and \n environmental integrity.<\/li>\r\n <li>To promote blue economy sectors and value chains that are compatible with MPAs, \n in particular sustainable fishing, ecotourism, responsible aquaculture, the promotion of \n local produce and ecosystem restoration.<\/li>\r\n <li>Examine the conditions under which these activities can generate local income and jobs, \n whilst reducing pressure on resources and ensuring the participation of \n communities, women and young people.<\/li>\r\n <li>To present the tools, methods and indicators used to assess the ecological, \n economic, social and institutional contributions of MPAs to sustainable development.<\/li>\r\n <li>To foster dialogue between MPA managers, communities, public decision-makers, \n researchers, donors, investors and the private sector regarding the needs, constraints \n and opportunities for partnership.<\/li>\r\n <li>To draw on experiences and best practices from different regions, with \n particular attention paid to African contexts.<\/li>\r\n <li>To formulate operational recommendations and key messages for IMPAC6, with a view to strengthening \n the integration of MPAs into policies on conservation, the blue economy, biodiversity financing \n and territorial development.<\/li>\r\n <\/ul>\r\n\r\n <h3>3. Sub-themes of the session<\/h3>\r\n <p>\r\n Thematic Session No. 4 is structured around three complementary sub-themes, which enable \n us to address, in turn, the resources required for the management of MPAs, the economic activities \n compatible with their conservation objectives, and the tools for measuring their outcomes.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.1. Discussions will focus in particular on public funding, trust funds, \nblue bonds, debt-for-nature swaps, blue carbon credits, fiscal mechanisms, \nuser charges, public-private partnerships and impact investments. Particular \n attention will be paid to the conditions necessary for the success of these mechanisms, notably governance, \n transparency, equity, management capacity, impact monitoring and environmental integrity.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.2. Sustainable blue economic sectors and value chains compatible with MPAs<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This sub-theme will focus on identifying and promoting economic activities that can \n contribute to regional development whilst respecting the conservation objectives of MPAs. \r\n It will focus in particular on sustainable fishing, ecotourism, responsible aquaculture, the promotion \n of local produce, and other low-impact blue economy activities. The discussions \n will analyse the conditions needed to limit pressure on resources, \n boost local incomes and jobs, improve community participation and ensure \n an equitable distribution of benefits, particularly for women and young people.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h4>3.3. Tools and approaches for assessing the contribution of MPAs to sustainable development<\/h4>\r\n <p>\r\n This sub-theme will focus on the approaches, methods and indicators used to measure the \n contribution of MPAs to sustainable development. In particular, it will focus on assessing the impacts of \n MPAs on biodiversity, ecosystem services, climate resilience, fisheries, income, \n employment, food security, local governance and community well-being. Discussions \n will also aim to identify tools accessible to managers, improve \n data collection and make better use of assessment results to inform public decision-making, \n strengthen accountability and mobilise funding for marine conservation.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <h3>4. Thus, the implementation of the IMPAC6 recommendations will contribute to achieving the objectives of the IUCN\u2019s 20-Year Strategic Vision and its Programme 2026\u20132029, which emphasise effectively conserved, protected and restored in marine and coastal environments, as well as their ecosystem services for the benefit of communities. This congress aims to accelerate the protection of the oceans by mobilising global expertise, sharing local and international experiences, and proposing strategic recommendations for better integration of ocean ecosystems. The main objective is to strengthen global marine conservation by ensuring a balanced representation of regions, particularly countries of the Global South. Objectives of the call for papers The call for papers aims to provide local communities, associations and socio-professional organisations, public and quasi-public institutions, NGOs, technical and financial partners, and individuals with a framework for reflection and the sharing of knowledge, experiences and best practices in the context of initiatives within marine protected areas. Its aim is to foster debate on issues relating to marine and coastal conservation for a sustainable blue economy. The conference will provide an opportunity to strengthen synergies in terms of current and future research and expertise, both regionally and internationally, through the involvement of all categories of stakeholders. It will also provide an opportunity to ensure the long-term viability of achievements and contribute to their consolidation, by making a summary of the papers presented available to conservation stakeholders in order to capitalise on scientific knowledge, experiences and best practices at a global level. Guidelines for participants Proposals for papers must contribute to the conference theme. They may relate to the marine and coastal sectors (sciences, art, culture). The incorporation of sustainability objectives is strongly encouraged. They may focus on theoretical, methodological, practical (fieldwork), artistic or cultural knowledge and\/or experiences (such as traditional music, dance, song and poetry inspired by coexistence with the ocean, oral narratives and other sea-related expressions). Participants interested in presenting papers are invited to submit an abstract (500 words). Paper proposals must include a title, the authors\u00ab names and affiliations, the theme and sub-theme to which the proposal relates, and five to six keywords. They must provide some background information, outline the research question, the objectives, the methodology used by the author, and, where applicable, the data sources, as well as the main results obtained or expected (depending on the stage of the research). Compliance with these guidelines is a prerequisite for the scientific committee to consider any proposal. Papers may be written in French, English or Spanish. All abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee and may be accepted either as an oral presentation, a poster, a video, or in any other format (to be specified). The assessment criteria are as follows: visual style; scientific, technical, empirical or artistic scope; and the impact of the proposed paper on IMPAC6. The conference will be structured around four central themes, presented below, across various sessions. Key themes of IMPAC6 Four central themes have been identified. They reflect both current issues relating to ocean governance, the conservation of marine biodiversity and adaptation to climate change, and the main priorities set out in the \u00bbRoadmap Towards IMPAC6\u00ab.
